PRIME ATTRACTIONS

Monkey Point : The highest point in Kasauli called Monkey point is just 4-km from the Kasauli bus stand. The Monkey Point commands an excellent view of the distant plains of Chandigarh region and the river Satluj, tracing a silvery trail through the scene. A small temple is also situated on the top of the hill, which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to a legend, at the end of Ramayana when Lord Hanuman was returning from the Himalayas after obtaining Sanjivany Booty or the Magical Herb, his foot touched the hill and thus the top of hill is in a foot shape. On a clear and starry night the gorgeous view of Chandigarh can be seen from the Monkey Point.

Sanawar : Just 6-km from Kasauli, Sanawar houses one of the best schools in the country. The Lawrence school is almost one hundred-years-old and a major attraction of the town.

Dharampur : Just 15-km from Kasauli on the National Highway No.22, Dharampur is situated. Amidst the healthy air of the fragrant pines, Dharampur has one of the best hospitals in India for the cure of tuberculosis. It is also connected by Kalka-Shimla railway line.

Sabathu : A little cantonment town has a Gurkha fort built in the early years of the 19th century, situated at an altitude of 1,437m. This cantonment town quartered the British soldiers at the time of British Empire. A diversion road from Dharampur 15-km away leads to the Sabathu town.

Dagshai : Another little cantonment at an altitude of 1,925m just 19-km from Kasauli, it is accessible by a link road, which diverts from Dhrampur. Dagshai is perched on a small hill and comprises of a military public school and numerous military barracks.

Christ Church : Close to the bus stand, it was constructed by the British family that founded the town of Kasauli itself. It is a magnificent structure built in the shape of a cross. Set amidst a grove of chestnut and fir trees, it is a place of worship for around 30 families. Apart from them, many tourists also flock here. Earlier, the church was known as the Anglican Church. In 1970, it was brought under the aegis of the CNI (Church of North India) and is currently managed by the diocese of Amritsar.

Sunset Point & Gilbert Trail  : Situated about 1 km from the bus stand.Sunset point offers a magnificent view of the nearby hill regions.On a clear day you may be able to view Chandigarh from up there.Walk up from the Sunset point you'll find a a trail leading to another view point.Its called the Gilbert Hill.Its not very famous and very few travelers actually go there.But the view from the Gilbert point is breathtakingly beautiful and in fact better than sunset point.Gilbert hill is army area though and you need to return from there by 18.30 hrs.

Scandal Point : Considered to be the highest point of the Mall, the Scandal Point is marked by a statue of Lala Lajpat Rai, the freedom fighter.

Gaiety Theatre : Located on the Mall, this theatre built in Neo- Gothic style was inaugurated in 1887 and was constructed to entertain the English elite.

Himachal State Museum : Located near the Scandal Point, it is housed in a charming colonial building with huge lawns. 

Viceregal Lodge : It was constructed as the residence of Viceroy Lord Dufferin but has now been converted into the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. Do not miss the astounding view of the sunset or sunrise from its terrace.

The Peterhoff : The historic Peterhoff complex, now a heritage hotel, is located at Chaura Maidan, in the heart of the city. From here you can see the scenic beauty of Choorchandani on the front side, Dhauladhar ranges on the western and Kinner Kailash on the eastern sides.

Jakhu Temple : Perched on the highest peak in Shimla, the Jakhu Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

Dhanu Devta Temple : About 4 km from the city, Dhanu Devta Temple is one of the rare temples where a male god is worshipped. Built in traditional Pahari style, it is replete with intricate woodwork.
